Spent about 40 mins total playing Battlefield 4 today, feel free to ask me any questions and I will try to answer them.
Here's a pic I snapped while waiting in line with the other 60+ players before they let us in to play
wolverine-actual99 karma
I'm pretty sure it was army and DAMN the destruction is OFF THE CHAIN, I had some insane firefights with people, and in addition to destruction, the area changes. For example, there was a group of guys inside what looked like a showroom with cars inside. I misfired my M320 and took out a huge chunk of wall of that room. Well that shit alerted these guys in there and they started firing my direction, but out of fucking nowhere these like security gates that they use in front of stores at the mall when they close shop started lowering down in front of my position where the wall/window had been, obscuring their vision and allowing me time to back up and reroute.
DanTMWTMP23 karma
Still Marines. BF2, and BF3 had Marines. We don't have apache's and only the Marines have CAS with their own air wings of AH-1Z, UH-1N, F/A-18's and in the near future, the F-35B; all of which we've already seen in game (or in BF2/3). ;). Thanks for the thread!
wolverine-actual8 karma
May very well be, but I didn't notice anything saying which one it was.
Venomania32 karma
Did you notice the small med/ammo packs. How if at all, were they different. Not sure if you even noticed/could tell.
wolverine-actual35 karma
Yes I did, best I can tell is that you have the regular med kit and then the small one. The small one heals you faster than the large one but I think it doesn't regenerate. (This is only my speculation so far)
DemonIced9 karma
What do you mean "doesn't regenerate"? Like it has a set % of health in it? Also why is there large ones and small ones? Is it a perk?
wolverine-actual12 karma
The "doesn't regenerate" part is only speculation on my part. The description for the smaller pack basically says that it quickly and fully heals the person on it, but I'm sure there must be a downside to using such an OP tool. I'm thinking that either you can't throw it down again or it depletes until you get more "ammo". As I said, speculation. I was more focused on the combat than the tiny details at the time.
wolverine-actual36 karma
I could not for the life of me figure out where my fucking defibs were at haha
wolverine-actual29 karma
Lucky for me there was a blue support nearby when I needed it, but if he hadn't been around I would have been fucked cuz I was under heavy fire and the map felt so massive haha
wolverine-actual57 karma
Haha no and I didn't get to see it come down during my playthrough, but I can confirm that it has to come down through demolition, not a scripted event like the Caspian tower.
wolverine-actual19 karma
Hahaha yea I know my buddy who plays support on BF3 is excited to get his hands on C4
Mr0range8113 karma
i heard they took C4 off the support kit and gave it to the recon kit. is that true?
wolverine-actual6 karma
I can't confirm or deny because I only had the opportunity to try assault and Engineer
lawlzelotz20 karma
Handling was a stat in the leaked pictures a few days ago. Could you tell exactly what effect that had? How was the difference in mobility between say LMG's vs SMGs. Recoil? Suppression?
wolverine-actual29 karma
Unfortunately I only had the opportunity to play as Assault and Engineer, and even then it's hard to really say. As an assault I did well with the starting American assault rifle (I cannot recall which one it was unfortunately, there was a lot to take in) it had nice range. My biggest issue while playing the engineer was that I usually had to finish people off with my pistol after putting a whole clip of my carbine into them. That might just be me complaining though since I prefer hardcore.
While setting up your kits though, it does give you gun stats and tells you the different pros/cons of various attachments, and there are a fuck ton so far!
Shimytangtang15 karma
Do you remember any attatchments off the top of you're head that weren't in BF3 (other than the alternate scope thing)
wolverine-actual21 karma
Can't give you exact names but there were multiple lasers you could add, a "coyote" (basically a red dot/kobra) new barrel types, I saw a stock that improved handling, the railing for an M26 Mass/M320 and a bipod attachment. Damn I wish I could remember it all. Also a lot of camos available for guns, and you can also customize your pistol.
wolverine-actual19 karma
Yes, there were a couple different sights you could choose as well as a silencer option. Also there one something that I think was a silencer/flashlight combo
wolverine-actual15 karma
Yea a fuck ton haha and you could change your gun/soldier camos very easily in game as long as you weren't spawned in.
wolverine-actual18 karma
Oh fuck yea, it was smooth as a mother fucker. I would have spent way more time customizing classes if it weren't for the fact that there was a battle to win and time was limited.
wolverine-actual8 karma
I am in love man. I basically found no interest in any other game there after my time was up lol I couldn't stop replaying all the action in my head.
wolverine-actual10 karma
There was a new green hip fire laser and I remember there was a suppressor/flashlight combo attachment for pistols. Also a stock attachment and new barrel attachment(s)
dishwasherphobia16 karma
Did you happen to get any knife kills? Were there new and epic animations or did you see anyone else get a knife kill and could describe how it looked?
wolverine-actual25 karma
Actually yes, and I'm happy to report that knifing is much easier than in BF3. I saw a homie run into a room and die, so I went in and found a recon. We started the usual close quarters dance of death, firing at each other while trying to keep cover between us. Well shit got real very fast and I didn't have time to switch to my side arm so I took a chance and charged at him slashing out my knife and it went into an animation. Unfortunately though we were up against a wall and his body glitched into it so I only saw my hands stabbing the air and grabbing a dog tag :/ but I did see several teammates perform various knife kills, they looked familiar but different at the same time. Sorry, it's kinda blurry, shit was desperate and I had to move on to the next task at hand before I could absorb all of it.
wolverine-actual21 karma
Yes, but we didn't have mics on the show floor because it was way too loud.
Glitchless6 karma
err I meant in-game* VOIP. Did you get connected to your squad/team through Battlelog or what?
wolverine-actual18 karma
There was no communication between the players in game other than the comarose and spotting, but as I said I'm sure it's because the mics would pick up all the loud music and noise on the show floor.
destroyermaker3 karma
Did the comma rose feel better? In BF3 it reacts imprecisely to mouse movement.
wolverine-actual6 karma
Things were too FUBAR for me to experiment with comarose a lot, but I would love the opportunity to use it because there have been many times when I wished I could say thank you to the GGG that swaps kits to revive you.
wolverine-actual42 karma
I didn't realize it was added until I got on this subreddit and saw someone had pointed it out, but makes sense because I remember at one point thinking that I had run out of ammo faster than expected.
As for how I feel? I love it.
cobrareaper15 karma
Hey Sylar (Cobrareaper here, still gonna call you that no matter what)! Just read through all of your answers, and the only thing not asked is the map size. So, how large is Siege in Shanghai? I know that the answer is probably something along the lines of FUCKING MASSIVE, but how massive are we talking about? I know the harbor or whatever is playable, but how deep into the city does it go?
wolverine-actual27 karma
Very deep! I didn't even scratch the surface! Besides all the city streets and buildings, there's rooftops and tunnels and walkways everywhere. Also you can dive under water and you can use your pistol while swimming.
LogicalLarynx5 karma
Can you expand on the diving under water part? That sounds fucking amazing!
wolverine-actual6 karma
I never did it myself but I know other people in this subreddit have already confirmed it. There was work to do, I didn't want to spend any of my time floundering in the water haha
LogicalLarynx2 karma
I couldn't find what they were saying. I don't want to leave it vague, lol...can you look down, go under water, and have to hold your breath?
wolverine-actual10 karma
Damn um well I guess Strike at Karkand mixed with Gulf of Oman (without all the desert) and the draw distance is fucking awesome, I saw footmobils running from all the way across the bay
wolverine-actual35 karma
I used the equivalent of a humvee while on the US side, the driving feels way fucking better, I didn't get constantly caught up on debris in the road and the MG up top seemed a lot more powerful than in BF3. Also, not sure if this is of any interest, but I switched seats to a passenger while my squad mate was in the MG and I could actually look around see him inside the the Jeep standing up operating the machine gun whilst looking through a screen.
That was the extent of my vehicle combat though because a tank rolled up on us so I had to hop in the driver seat and dip the fuck out haha somehow we survived that situation.
wolverine-actual18 karma
Well this particular passenger seat I was referring to had you facing backwards
destroyermaker8 karma
I didn't get constantly caught up on debris in the road
Awesome to hear. Is it the same for infantry and getting caught on random rocks, bridges, etc?
wolverine-actual5 karma
Did experience the classic rubber band while vaulting over a jersey barrier but it wasn't very prevalent outside of that particular instance that I can remember.
wolverine-actual32 karma
Did not notice any scope glint during my time and found little to no suppression while fighting in the streets. But when I fought a couple supports their suppression was felt enough to pin us down.
Legolas7589336 karma
Good, supports will actually have a role other than just ammo now then.
wolverine-actual27 karma
Exactly haha I'm going back tomorrow and will try to take more time to learn about the classes
Legolas7589311 karma
Question, when you played, did the tower get taken down immediately or was it a decent amount of time into the round?
wolverine-actual20 karma
It actually never got taken out during my playtime. It's not a scripted event like the Caspian tower, you actually have to demo the building's support structures to take it down, and if that happens the *entire Charlie objective gets wiped off the map.
[edit] it has been pointed out to me that charlie may still be there after the skyscraper collapses, but in some other form of course.
Legolas7589314 karma
Actually, that's where you're wrong. Charlie shows up, just in the rubble.
wolverine-actual10 karma
Really? I suppose that's possible since I didn't see it happen during my playthrough, but I was led to believe it would be gone, which would have a strategic advantage by cutting off tools for the commander. Once again, only my speculation.
Bike_stole_my_nigga12 karma
What equipment do assaults, supports and recons have?
How is the lean and peak feature? Any screenshots?
What button do you press/click to aim with an additional sight?
Any new rocket launchers for engineer?
wolverine-actual16 karma
I was not even aware of a leaning feature, now I wish someone had told me before I went in there so I could figure it out haha and while I was engineer, I used some kind of rocket launcher to fire at a tank, and while shit was too hectic for me to pay attention to it, I'm pretty sure I reloaded it like an RPG
wolverine-actual13 karma
I only had the opportunity to play as Assault and Engineer.
The assault had a regular med kit or you could choose an alternative to it. It wasn't too descriptive as to what the pros and cons were between the two other than the fact that the small one heals you faster, I'm assuming that the downfall would be that it has to be replenished but don't quote me on that.
It looks like the second sight is listed as a gadget and unfortunately I didn't get the opportunity to equip one so I cannot answer that one :/
PaDDzR12 karma
Suppression? how does it work? Does it effects bullets? Etc etc, tell us about suppression ! Please?...
wolverine-actual24 karma
I noticed a lack of suppression during firefights, but you'll definitely be able to tell when a light or heavy machine gun starts pinning you down.
GanglarToronto7 karma
How was it getting shot at? On the stream I heard bullet snaps and cracks instead of the pathetic pew pew sounds we have now. Did it feel scary?
wolverine-actual12 karma
Yea I had the volume up so it was very intense, and I always basically knew where the shots were being fired from by the sound.
TheNyo11 karma
How did the gunship work? And does it feel overpowered like on Armored Kill RUSH?
And what about the airstrikes and the other commander tools? Can you give us more infos on how they were in game?
Thanks in advance
wolverine-actual9 karma
I tried spawning in the gunship while my team had it but it must have been full because I couldn't spawn on it.
So I'll tell you what I know of Commander mode from what I saw as a soldier. The Dice employees were the commanders for each team, and the commander's ability to use different tools (missels, etc) seemed to be dependent on which objectives your team held, as well as points awarded for following orders. Unfortunately we couldn't get our hands on it so we had to leave it up to Dice.
Death3D10 karma
Were there any small details that weren't mentioned that you remember? Possibly some background sound you found interesting or destruction, etc?
wolverine-actual45 karma
Biggest thing I noticed right away was that you can no longer break into an insta-sprint, now you have to build up a little bit of speed. And there are so many building and tunnels you can go through its crazy!
Meowkit22 karma
That is actually a cool mechanism. Hope people don't complain about it.
Map design sounds promising too.
wolverine-actual23 karma
Also it would seem that the M320 has a lot less range and accuracy. Probably a good thing.
wolverine-actual7 karma
I wish! I want to watch me kill and be killed and study the game further
wolverine-actual20 karma
Not sure, I only threw one grenade. Interesting point to add though is that there are flash grenades now. Didn't use or see it used though.
by_a_pyre_light10 karma
Were you in complete awe of a real, full version of Battlefield, coming from the crippled current generation console version?
wolverine-actual28 karma
Yes! It felt so... Incredible to know that, even though I was having crazy battles, there were other parts of the city that were under siege and I never even saw them but they were just as important and useful as my adventures were.
wolverine-actual23 karma
For some reason Everytime I tried to use my M320 my camera would wig out and I'd be looking up at the sky. It was as easy to fix as looking down again but during some of the fire fights it was frustrating.
Toasted_FlapJacks9 karma
Did enemies appear to have orange indicators as usual to you while playing or are teams given a color?
wolverine-actual10 karma
It was blue vs orange like BF3 but of course those silly core Doritos only showed up when spotting
wolverine-actual8 karma
Shit man I can't remember which squad I was in (I basically just joined one that was 4/5 so I could be in a full squad) or which platform I was at, I think I was one of the Alphas. I wish we could have used team chat during the demo lol
EvilClone1288 karma
How many kits are there? I heard rumors of 5 kits, can you confirm or deny this?
wolverine-actual23 karma
Still 4 kits, Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. I guess the commander could be considered a kit of its own lol the Dice employees played the commander on each team.
destroyermaker7 karma
When you customize attachments and such, do you do it all on one screen or does it require multiple screens?
Is audio spotting in the game? Are suppressors allowed on all guns?
How is recoil/damage/reload times vs BF3?
wolverine-actual8 karma
Customization is simple and smooth, all on one screen, you'll love it! Sound seemed pretty fantastic to me and I could definitely feel the suppression from heavy/light machine guns. I couldn't tell how well I was suppressing the enemy, and I only saw a silencer on the pistol, but I'm sure that's not the only type of weapon that can be suppressed.
destroyermaker2 karma
Sorry, by audio spotting I mean when people shoot, do they show up on the minimap?
wolverine-actual7 karma
Oh, yes they do, just like in BF3. Commanders can also do some kind of sweep of the map and mark enemy positions on the mini map.
wolverine-actual4 karma
I actually think I saw that one in the load outs but I chose something had better accuracy stats I think
wolverine-actual9 karma
I was not squad leader and I couldn't figure out how to spawn on people, I figured out how to spawn on objectives and did that instead. But I know you can because after pushing into the skyscraper, three guys spawned on me as I was riding up the elevator.
FapFlop5 karma
Aw. :(
Thanks for the reply!:) I noticed you were in awe by the size of the area. Have you played a 64 player game of BF2/BF3 before?
wolverine-actual6 karma
No, unfortunately I didn't start playing Battlefield until Battlefield 2 Modern Combat on xbox 360 so this was my first 64 player experience
kit256 karma
Were you any good? Nah I'm just kidding, I just wanted to say I envy you SO MUCH right now.
wolverine-actual9 karma
Yea I actually didn't do too bad! I can't even explain how intense it felt to ride up the elevator to the skyscraper and clear the top floor, I can already see many ambushes being laid at the top there.
I got flanked several times due to the fact that we couldn't communicate through voice cuz the convention center floor was really fucking loud, but the headset canceled out the noise so I could immerse myself in the combat.
RVK876 karma
Just imagine all those claymores in front of the elevator. It takes one guy who isn't paying attention to run out and kill 2-3 guys in the elevator. How can you even destroy that without injuring/killing your teammates?
wolverine-actual24 karma
Beats me, if I were looking at a death-trap claymore I'd probably just quietly press the elevator button again and go back downstairs lol
Llim5 karma
One of the largest complaints in BF3 was that the HUD was cluttered and the menu system felt awkward to use. Have they improved on both of those points?
wolverine-actual6 karma
I play hardcore so I'm used to minimal hud, I didn't notice it as an issue at all while I played, and the menu/kit set up was super smooth, I might even say enjoyable. I would have loved to spend more time in the menu but there was work to be done lol
Gremzero5 karma
How was the level of destruction different compared to bf3? Besides the skyscraper and pillars under the metro, what else was there that stood out?
wolverine-actual10 karma
The destruction is OFF THE CHAIN, I had some insane firefights with people, and in addition to destruction, the area changes. For example, there was a group of guys inside what looked like a showroom with cars inside. I misfired my M320 and took out a huge chunk of wall of that room. Well that shit alerted these guys in there and they started firing my direction, but out of fucking nowhere these like security gates that they use in front of stores at the mall when they close shop started lowering down in front of my position where the wall/window had been, obscuring their vision and allowing me time to back up and reroute.
knick11954 karma
Is the death animation the same?! I never enjoyed the consistent drop to the left despite bring hit by a rocket per say...
wolverine-actual5 karma
Well I can't say right now because for the demo, a banner pops up when you die with the battlefield 4 logo on it. I'm sure that's temporary.
teslasmash4 karma
Did any other buildings collapse besides the skyscraper? More than just the facade / walls, etc.
wolverine-actual7 karma
Not that I saw, but in comparison to the size and diversity of the map, I only saw a small bit of it.
boohuscared3 karma
Did you get any info about the amount of players per platform? And if you played on consoles, how were the graphics?
wolverine-actual6 karma
We all played on PC, although they also had Xbone controllers you could use as an alternative, which I did since I play on the xbox360 (for now) and no, so far there was only speculation as to how many players per platform. The general rumor right now is obviously 64 on PC, possibly 64/32 for next gen consoles and most likely 24 on current gen. This is of course all speculation.
Toasted_FlapJacks3 karma
Did you play in any vehicles at all? I hear there is limited ammo that replenishes?
wolverine-actual6 karma
I used the equivalent of a humvee while on the US side, the driving feels way fucking better, I didn't get constantly caught up on debris in the road and the MG up top seemed a lot more powerful than in BF3. Also, not sure if this is of any interest, but I switched seats to a passenger while my squad mate was in the MG and I could actually look around see him inside the the Jeep standing up operating the machine gun whilst looking through a screen.
That was the extent of my vehicle combat though because a tank rolled up on us so I had to hop in the driver seat and dip the fuck out haha somehow we survived that situation, and there may be limited ammo but I was too busy trying to secure the streets outside the skyscraper to notice at the time.
wolverine-actual4 karma
I did use it, and it basically just felt like an xbox controller to me haha I integrated into the game pretty naturally with it.
Zatojawed_2 karma
Compared to say the 360 version of BF3 did the PC version of BF4 feel like there was any Magnetism with the XONE's controller being used? I "try" to play BF3 on my PC with a 360 controller but due to being a big console gamer I tend to get destroyed by people using mouse and keyboard. Did you find yourself still being able to beat others in a gunfight?
wolverine-actual5 karma
Oh yea definitely, I only died a few times during firefights but it never felt like I "should have lived" and I got plenty of kills, at least enough to know that I was going positive. Too bad I can't see the battle report lol
Drutarg3 karma
Are many of the controls unchanged or are we going to have to learn some new buttons?
wolverine-actual5 karma
Well I noticed that the spotting button for the controller was the right bumper which felt way better and easier lol and I could only crouch/go prone by pressing B rather than the right stick, which I found annoying but NBD
wolverine-actual7 karma
They gave each of us a plastic bag to line our undergarments with before allowing us to play
Roeratt2 karma
During the gameplay video, at the end I saw what looked like a counterknife. Is it true?
wolverine-actual2 karma
It probably is but I didn't have the opportunity to try, didn't get knifed while I was there. Sounds badass though haha
SchnitzelSandwich35 karma
Was the US faction the Marines or the Army? Also, how much of the map was destructible? Was it like BF3's destruction, or Bad Company 2's destruction?
