how weird do you plan to get with your animal choices as the year goes?

I don't want to give too much away, but there's quite a lot of scope when you think of extinct animals, species of animals, and maybe even a spattering of fictional. We'll see how desperate I get. But for now I have more than enough regular animals to keep me busy. The only trick is getting them to be grumpy and funny and relevant to that particular animal too :) (edit:typo)

Who are your biggest influences when it comes to art?

At the moment I love Nathan Pyle's Strange Planet, the subtle comedy is perfect. I made a joke that I want to be him when I grow up (I'm 42). I think influences for this type of art (comic/comical) comes from a little bit of everywhere in life, and you have to give a little bit of yourself so that people can relate.

Can you draw me a grumpy lobster tomorrow?

not tomorrow sorry, but yes, one of these days. I have to draw whatever I feel the urge to draw on that day otherwise it becomes just a task and my brain will turn against the task and self destruct (or something) and the reason I started doing it was to break out of the habit of procrastinating and just get something done, bit by bit, day by day.

they can be kind of cute, look mostly weird and sometimes mean, and have amazing abilities. and unfortunately on the brink of extinction in the wild :( edit: I'm bad at formatting

I thought the sloth's face was quite glum when I studied it. a shark also has that down-turned grin. I don't feel qualified to answer that yet, but I'm sure I'll meet them along the way. I'd say an Alpaca is the toughest so far, only because a caricature of one just looks like a real one.

Do you have any pets?

yes. but calling her a pet is extreme. we feed and give attention to a dog that will let us get on with our lives if we do.

which one beastflaps or payitforwards? both do. BeastFlaps because I draw Beasts in a flap, and payitforwards because just a couple weeks ago I gave a gift to a stranger and the very next day just by happenstance my coworker surprised me with a free breakfast meal. what are the chances of that. it made my day.

When did you start drawing and did you ever consider realism or always cartoons?

when I was a child apparently. always remember having a pencil and paper nearby. mainly because it was cheaper/easier than paints. I used to do portraits (for fun). I only really remember one or two of them being any good. I think I get bored quite easily and I need to either be interested in the subject matter or see the end result quite quickly. which is why cartoons suit me currently

Do you have a few in reserve or are you literally doing one a day?

I draw at roughly the same time every day when I get an hour to myself in the house. I have nothing in reserve. running in real-time mode heh heh

Does your sarcasm ever get you into trouble? I love your sense of humor but i can definitely see how some might not agree. Also the sloth helped me in a really bad day so im here to say thanks!!

I’m not usually sarcastic. I use it only in the safe space of grumpy animals. no trouble yet, but there’s plenty of days left for that. glad mr sloth helped.

because I can vent through the medium of animalgrump. happy is maybe too safe. grumpy is where the action is

yes a little bit. I did a quick fun sized dino just recently

never. ;) I'm stubborn enough to see it through one way or another and my fool brain was already panicking me awake the other night thinking what next year's daily drawings could be about when the whole animal thing is behind us. slightly alarmed robots?

Ren & Stimpy. Always. Because playing hide and Seek and "coooooming ready or not, Stimpy where are yoooou?" (muffled): "I'm in the clooooset!"

Don't stop. I saw the first one, although I don't see it every day. I started drawing again last summer and stopped and I couldn't get back on the horse since. Did you plan out some of those dailys ahead of time?

I won’t stop. You start. :) no I’m just taking it day by day. sometimes I sit for ages looking at a blank page other days I can’t wait to get started because I know exactly what I’m going to draw.

Since you didn’t actually start on the first, did you go back and draw extras to make it true?

I have to catch up with the “missing 6 days” so that I can end on december 31st rather than January 6th :) I can do that this month
