Is your friendship with Robert Downey Jr. in real life as good as it is on the screen between your characters?

Better. We have a really good friendship. We've known each other since before Zodiac. And he's kind of like an older brother that I wish I had. He sort of looks out for me, and I remember when the role came up in the movie, I reached out to him, I was nervous about it, I said "I don't know if I can do this" and he said "It's alright buddy, I gotcha."

Hey Mark! For 13 Going On 30, did you have to learn the dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, or did you already know it?

I had to learn to dance the thriller dance. It took me a long time. MJ was a really good dancer.

Lets start with the Buffalo in the room. Your name rhymes with Buffalo. Was this bad in school, or did you pivot it into a cool nickname. Are there any other animal names with which you would prefer your last name to rhyme? Lastly, does working with Water Defense make you a Water Ruffalo?

Hahaha! I knew, one day, that I would be able to call myself a Water Ruffalo. And so I was born into the Ruffalo family.

I was teased relentlessly for having a name that rhymed with "Buffalo" but at some point I turned that in my favor. I just started saying "Ruffalo" like "Buffalo" and at that point, I sort of took it back from the people who used it to make fun of me because I'd introduce it myself - they'd say "What's your name" and I'd say "Ruffalo, like Buffalo." And then my friends started calling me "Ruff" and that's been my nickname since then.

After watching the Avengers, you became my favorite Hulk/Bruce Banner.
Compared to all your roles in other great movies, do you consider this to be your favorite?
And when will you be in a zombie movie?? Do you love Breaking Bad?

What makes you Hulk level angry?

People messing up the environment with little care of the people and living things it will effect. Climate Change denial bums me out but that is mostly people who just haven't looked too deeply into the issue or have very little regard for science. Cruelty, and selfishness upset me and greed is a major ugly quality in people.Wars also suck.

Mark, what does everyone need to know about fracking?

That it's no better for climate change. That it pollutes water and air. And renewable energies are at a place right now where we should just move forward with implementing them than to build out an infrastructure that supports hydro-fracking. It's a relatively new technology and by supporting it we're engaging in one of the biggest industrial experiments ever undertaken without understanding what the long-term health effects or consequences are.

Hi Mark, what is something that the average fan would not know about you?

That I'm an introvert. I'm a secret introvert posing as an extrovert.

If you had to pick someone to play my love Jennifer Walters/She Hulk, who'd be your top choice? :)

Oh wow, that's pretty crazy. Well I think Zoe Saldana would be a great She Hulk. It'd be nice to see someone like her join the Avengers. Or someone quiet and demure like Emma Stone would be nice. But it would be up to the powers that be.

What's the best life advice you would give?

Re-define everything that has been taught you. Grasp the unobtainable. Plummet headfirst. Be true to yourself.

I read an article years ago by Michael Stipe and he had said those things. And I still remembered them.

Who's your favorite Pokémon?

Squirtle. For some reason that was the first Pokemon I got on my Gameboy, when I was playing it - they would give you 2 different ones, Charmander or Squirtle, and I started with Squirtle, so I have a warm place in my heart for Squirtle.

Hi Mark, are you a comic book fan? Who is your favorite superhero?

Well, growing up, when I was little it was the Hulk and Bill Bixby's the Incredible Hulk TV show. But as I got older it was Wolverine, and I have a signed first edition of the Wolverine by Frank Miller. That's pretty cool.

If you could rock one Shakespearean role on stage, who would it be?

Oooh wow. Probably Hamlet.

What is your favourite Disney movie and what is your favourite thing to do whilst at the Disney parks?

My favorite Disney movie was probably Fantasia. I like Return to Magic Mountain, that's a fun ride.

Visiting people in America who couldn't drink their water because of extreme energy extraction aka fracking. And it got me to thinking how easy it is to forget how important our water is to every aspect of our life. Water is life. And it's more precious than any other substance. It's been so available to us in such large quantities that it's easy to forget how wonderful a friend it is. And now with climate change and pollution, it really needs us to begin to look out for it and thus - water defense.

I have a few questions. First, you have worked with a lot of acclaimed filmmakers (Scorsese, Fincher, Jonze etc) who did you enjoy working with the most?

Out of all the films you have been in – which one is your personal favorite?

And finally – are you a fan of the HBO series Game of Thrones? And if so who is your favorite character?

I had a great time with all of them, but some of them I became friends with. David Fincher is someone in particular that I really love and admire. Jane Campion.

I already said that in the first one I did.

My son watches it, and Tyrion is his favorite.

Hahaa. Um... whatever my wife's or kids have left in the shower. Whatever's available.

Hi Mark! I came by to say that I'm a huge fan of your work, especially in Blindness and The Brothers Bloom, so I'm really happy you're doing this AMA.

On to my question. I've seen you over the years appear on talk shows (and, more recently, on social media) speaking out against the practice of fracking, and favouring cleaner energy sources like solar and wind power. Considering how dependent most Americans are on natural gas and other nonrenewable energy sources, what can be done to get more people using sources of clean energy in their everyday lives?

Well, the good news is that renewable energy is now affordable to everyone, through either leasing from companies like Solar City or Sungevity, or financing them through crowdsourced funding like Solar Mosaic. Wal-Mart has gone 100% renewable energy, not because they're environmentalists or "tree huggers" (*I love tree huggers, I am one, hug a tree today), but because it's good for business. Today Wal-Mart generates more solar energy than 38 states. That's because it's good for business. We are living in a very special time, and we will see the end of the fossil fuel paradigm in our lifetime. At that point, there will be an abundance of resources that would normally go to defending and paying for expensive fossil fuels, but instead that money will go to our cities, our schools, our hospitals, and the people who need it. Shine on.

Hey Mark... Where in the world is your fav place to visit?

Wow. I just love to travel. I love to be near big bodies of water. So I don't have a favorite place. But I love to surf. And I love to swim. And I love the water. I love to float on a river.

How many socks have you eaten today?

Um... only 4. I'm on a diet.

Who was your biggest inspiration?

Oh man, I've had so many inspirations in my life. I would probably say the Poet Walt Whitman is a big inspiration for me. And Joanne Linville, my acting teacher at the Stella Adler school in Los Angeles. She gave me the great gift of acting. And that opened up my life to many, many other gifts.

Oh gosh, that a handful of people can change the world.

Well, my favorite book is probably - that's tough, I have a lot of books I love. Hmmm. I would say Ask the Dust and Catcher in the Rye, just for sentimental reasons. And the one book that I wish I had time and the years that it would take to understand would be James Joyce's Ulysses.
