ISP's have a monopoly on the internet,

This is why I was hopeful Google Fiber would succeed but it seems to have fallen off. Google seems to be a lot more receptive to public opinion of them and if they were on the wrong end of this I'd like to think they would admit "We realize people don't want this. We'll back off." Where as companies like Verizon and Comcast seem to be yelling "F*** YOU PUBLIC" as they back a dump truck of money up to be used for lobbying sheep like Ajit Pai.

This was probably the intended outcome. People want off RH after their debacle and this is a absolute golden opportunity for other brokers/apps to steal a chunk of their users. I still cant believe RH's thinking here. Like did they already think they were irreplaceable? Or did they really value saving their hedge fund buddies over their own survival?

Did you have a lawyer present and how were you dressed? I was at traffic court and I showed up in a suit and had a lawyer. I remember this mexican guy a few people ahead of me came in ripped jeans and and old shirt go up for a DUI (i don't know how serious a DUI). The judge asked if he had a lawyer and he said he didn't. The judge said you need to have a lawyer for a charge like this. The guy responded he would rather just represent himself (i forgot if he said he couldn't afford one). I think even response wasn't even that well mannered for a court room.. something like "Nah, I'll just do this myself."

The judge sternly looked at him responded he was to come back on XX date and be sure he had a lawyer with him. I'm doubtful most courts are the lenient to people especially after they clearly say they want to represent themselves.

edit: Bonus story.. when I was waiting my turn one of the older lawyers came in to talk to the cop who I guess gave out most of the tickets. The attorney seemed to be friendly with this cop and I don't remember all they said but I remember one part where the attorney had a stack of papers he flipped through saying "I got this [guy's name] again. This is his [8th?] (i don't remember the number here.. it was greater than 5) DUI. I don't know what I can do for this guy."

The number of DUI's that person had seemed absurd.. I don't know how he wasn't in jail.. but then again if that was his day in court he probably was headed to jail after that many.

I went up and pled for the minimum. Other attorney just asked if I had any previous crimes. My attorney said no and everyone agreed. I was out in a few minutes.

My dad sued his old company over some health matter. I remember him telling me his attorney got back to him that the company wanted to settle for $2k and he was going on how $2k was hardly worth his health bills. He declined. Sometime later I remember him calling me and telling me how, like a year after the fact, the attorney finally gave him all the material related to his case. Turns out the company had offered him a $12k settlement and the attorney was only telling my dad what he would get ($2k) after the attorney kept $10k as his 'fee'. I remember my dad saying he would try to go back to the company and see if he could still get the $12k settlement on his own but he (obviously) didn't get that.

Donna demending a "seat at the table" and rising as high as she did with no law degree was kind of as dumb as Mike hanging around after he was found out.
