TLDR; Just don't use the internet.

Internet is built on top of the technologies that could be also used to track your activity. It had not been designed to be trackable, but eventually people figured out that some features could be used to track people. So:

If you ever want to access something on the internet (no matter which website, which type of content) your data goes through lots of network devices owned by different companies. And they can intercept it if they want. Nobody could deny that because they can do it anyways.

Also secondly, there's an identification thing called IP addresses. IP addresses are used to reference way to the your router. When you request something from for example google servers they have to send that data back to you. So they have to know source IP address (your IP address) which'll probably won't change for some time which makes it's easier to identify you for companies.

You can use VPNs. But keep in your mind that VPN doesn't magically change your IP address / anonymises you. It just works as a middleman between you and the internet services you're accessing to. They just promise that they don't tell anybody that you've connected to X server at X date. But most of them are probably lying, some of them were already leaked that they were selling the data (connection logs and other things which makes sense to the buyer) to 3rd party and government. So it's also possible to track and found you even if you're using a VPN service.

In conclusion, it's pretty impossible to really hide your online footprint.
