If you want to train the UK book a month in advance buy plus bus for cities get an oyster card and take a look at coach travel NEVER buy on the day for long travel and avoid multiple changes. If you have to change train check before that you are given enough time 5 minutes between is not enough to get orientated. Trains are often late but the rail employees have great knowledge of the system. Don't hesitate to ask. If you travel from the south to the north, sleeper cabins are a good investment. Some stations receive very limited service, you can't sleep at the station and there may not be a taxi. Listen to the announcements as the boards can mislead if there is a change in platform.
