If you were going to learn programming from scratch, where would you start?

I fell right into that trap. I figured that python is a good starting point--a lot of people feel that it teaches one lazy methodology, but it's the quickest way to get the feel of programming. I haven't gotten through your book yet, but I definitely intend to. The part on excel is extremely useful for my girlfriend's job and her scheduling issues I'd imagine. Thanks for the response.
