This is really nice advice. You seem very sweet (especially to have gone through so much.) Thank you!

Yes, this is true. But for women who are interested who did not serve (ex: wives, children, grandchildren, etc.), the Auxiliary is their only option. I suppose I should have made that more clear.

I don't want to make it seem like I am spamming this thread, as I have made other comments, but you should look into getting support or joining the American Legion or the American Legion Auxiliary (for women). Both are excellent veteran support organizations that do great work for Vet advocacy. The work they do ranges from youth programs, welcoming home vets from their tours overseas, to helping out families. I have been a member for five years now, and I absolutely love it.

Just giving my two cents here:

If you want to help with Veterans Affairs, either directly with vetrans or with their families as well, a great organization to seek out is the American Legion or the American Legion Auxiliary (for women). The Legion is a veterans support organization that lobbies congress for VA benefits and also works directly with the VA (helps out on poker nights, visits vets in the hospital, etc.) But it doesn't stop there either. The Legion/Auxiliary welcomes vets home from their tours. They help families by providing meals or any assistance they may need. The Legion and the Auxiliary rely on membership or support from the community to help Veterans ans their families, so if you are interested in doing something that may immediately help even just one veteran I would suggest looking into this organization or others like it. The only "catch" I could think of is that you or a family member have to have served in a war to be a member, and you have to pay a dues, which is like 20 bucks usually. Either way, I strongly encourage you to look into an organization like this. There are others like it, hell you could probably just go volunteer at your local VA. Typing in "American Legion and then your state" will bring up results you are looking for.

Anyways, hope this helped. some.

Yeah, the Legion can be corrupt in some areas, mainly in the East/Southeast. I suppose I am used to the Legion posts on the West Coast, where they are not as big/don't have other interests. It's good to hear they are doing good work though!

I wish you the best!
