What is your opinion on what happens to our consciousness after we die, and how have you made peace with that?

Was it the diagnosis that brought you to peace through perspective, or is it something you have always had? For me, the idea of what's next is the most intriguing question of our existence, and also the toughest for me to grasp. I've always wondered how having an impending time limit changes that outlook.
