My mom was an alcoholic and I avoid alcohol in fear that alcoholism could be genetic and I might have "an addictive personality" that has not been awakened. I don't think I will ever feel the urge to take up drinking but what are your thoughts on this?

I agree that lonely people can be prone to drink just like outgoing/social people. I think what he meant by "who do you surround yourself with" is whether you have a group of people who genuinely care about you vs. if you have no family/friends, OR vs. if you surround yourself with people who are shady and have ulterior motives and a bad influence on you.
