I'll give you a doctor's perspective: yes it may be in Profounda's best interest to get this into every hospital it can. Want to know why? Because if it is available we WILL start using it in cases where the clinical picture is not clear. If someone comes in with altered mental status and fever, they generally get a good antibiotic/antiviral cocktail to cover common infections. If this drug is available at all hospitals, I guarantee it will be used in cases where it really isn't necessary just "in case" the doctors think they are missing something. At $16,000 a treatment, that is in Profounda's best interest.

Maybe not the main reason, but it certainly would be something I would be thinking about as a hospital administrator. If doctors started using this as a default protocol for certain patient presentations then yeah it would probably hit in the bottom line of the hospital when the uninsured get it and can't pay the cost of the medication.

Metformin does not damage your kidneys. There is concern about using it in patients with reduced kidney function because of the risk of developing lactic acidosis (my anecdote on the matter is I've never seen it be an issue for the patients I've caught still on it when their creatinine clearance drops under 30).

The diarrhea does often go away as well. If it doesn't there is an extended release version that helps with that side effect.

. Acid reflux is NOT normal and should not be treated with OTC drugs for any real length of time.

What do you mean? The medications used for GERD are mostly OTC now, with PPIs being the main treatment. You can get them more as "prescription strength" through a doctor, but it would be the same as just doubling up some of the OTC dosages.

Sorry about your friend.

Yeah I still haven't played the official rules since actually learning them 4-5 years ago (and to be clear, I haven't played in that long either). The other major rule no one I've ever played with seems to follow is that if you don't buy a property when you land on it, it gets auctioned off.
