Why is "kangaroo" on the list? Doesn't seem to be a species living in the USA.

True, but that doesn't solve my desire for instant gratification/answers. The book is definitely on my list, but this is a job for the internet.

Many countries probably still have weaponized biological programs as well; in 1995 “Iraq admitted it had hundreds of scientists working in at least five separate facilities, a number of which were located underground… In 1996, the CIA provided President Clinton with reports on the biological weapons programs believed to be in existence inside North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Libya, and Syria-all still classified in 2015.”

I’d read this in a book about declassified documents concerning DARPA’s history, The Pentagon's Brain: An Uncensored History of DARPA, America's Top-Secret Military Research Agency by Annie Jacobsen which has a chapter on biological weapons. Earlier in the chapter, it mentioned that declassified documents indicated that after the end of the Cold War there was still an active Russian biowarfare program as well. And if you really want to be scared, look up the concept of "stealth viruses."

On the plus side, the declassified information seemed to indicate that the US was mostly focused on biowarfare defense.
