When you fire a blank the percussion from the round activates a laser mounted on your rifle. Vehicles and people have a sensors on them, so if a vehicle is destroyed it has a big orange light that turns on and people get this high-pitched ring when shot.

You still go to Basic Training for two months where you'll get the Drill Sergeant yelling at you before you head to Fort Sam Houston.

I'm a 68w too. Where do you go for Basic? Being that is is July it is going to be hot as hell. Drink water, like all the freaking time. Make sure you get enough salt too to retain the water.

During your actual medic training half of it is going to spent in emt-b training and the other half is called whiskey phase, where you'll actually learn the combat medic side. You'll have your cellphone when you're in your barracks so I recommend downloading an NREMT app, I had one that did flash cards with terms that greatly helped. Be prepared for getting released after chow and then staying up until midnight studying on the weekdays.

Medic training will be both exhausting and fun at the same time. Your weekends there are mostly your own so have some fun. You'll meet a great many people that you'll be friends with for years to come. You could have your family ship your laptop to you shortly after you get to Fort Sam. There is wifi available at the barracks but it is overpriced and way too slow so I'd recommend getting a wifi-hotspot if you want to have semi-decent internet.

A lot of guys aren't used to making the money you will be making soon and end up blowing it all on stupid things. Try saving the majority of your money each paycheck.

If there's something else you want to know feel free to ask, I love being a medic and am happy to help others in becoming one.

It's not too difficult to score high enough to be a medic. Here's some info on getting accepted and what you'll do as a medic. If you have any questions I can answer some, I went through Army Medic training 3 years ago.
