I am currently a law student and I've worked with "successful attorneys" at small to mid-sized law firms who are fearful about not paying back school loans. What impact would defaulting on those loans have on their professional careers? And do I understand correctly that if they make payments for twenty years their loans will be forgiven, regardless of whether they are in the public or private sectors?
