Thanks for the response! $11k is worth it! You can write open access fees into future grant proposals as well. Something like, "based on the research carried out under this grant, we anticipate publishing 3 peer-reviewed articles. Our past research in this field has been published in venues such as X, Y, and Z, and open access publishing costs for these journals is $x, so I am requesting $xxx to cover article processing charges related to this work."
