Grew up in the netherlands with parents living through the second world war (as kids) - our monuments of the liberation thank the CANADIAN, British and Polish soldiers, not the Americans.. So thanks again. EDIT: this one for instance. EDIT2 and this one with English wording and EDIT3 to clarify: "our" refers to the local area where I grew up, not the Netherlands as a whole, let alone all nations on the European or the whole world - I didnt intend to make statements on the role of the USA in general, as that is what some people seem to have read between the lines.

I hate it that annoying, disrespectful people are more likely to get what they want than softspoken, polite people.

Well they were, but every village was liberated one-by-one, and our region, the East, was liberated primarily by the Canadians. so if you ask the old folks who still remember all that, who they're thankful to, they will definitely first mention Canada before other countries.

This is truly awesome.

I find this very surprising. I know a guy who flies planes across the atlantic and all he does is watch tv shows on his laptop and check on the autopilot with a half eye. So there is no auto-pilot or cruise-control type setting on the train?

Great AMA by the way - love it!
