Regarding disliking -isms, I love Aziz Ansari's take (in reference to feminism): “If you believe that men and women have equal rights, if someone asks if you’re a feminist, you have to say yes, because that’s how words work. Like, you can’t be like ‘Oh yeah I’m a doctor who primarily does diseases of the skin.’ ‘Oh so you’re a dermatologist?’ ‘Oh no, that’s way too aggressive a word.'”

-ism doesn't necessarily mean rigid or unchanging. It just helps clarify a summary of beliefs (or nonbelief).
