Always be familiar with the term "head" since it means bathroom.

Port is left, starboard is right.

Stern is to the rear of the ship, bow to the front.

Three sheets to the wind means a person who's so drunk they're wavering like sails with no wind in them. Drunk as fuck in other words. CO is your boss, the restaurant manager, you're the XO as executive officer of the servers/floor.

Just know that some of the Purple Hearts being awarded today were manufactured during WWII. They are part of the stock that was manufactured with intent of having to award them for men who were to be injured during the land invasion of Japan.

That would have been a nasty, brutal, and extremely long war, had we not used the bombs.

I've been on the Lincoln as well as the Midway museum. It's incredible how large they are.

A someday pipe dream for me is to scuba dive down to at least the flight deck, if not the hanger deck of the USS Oriskany. She's about 80' shorter than Midway. The really cool thing is, they sunk her shallow enough to safely dive her, though to go to the flight or hanger deck is a complicated technical dive due to depth, regardless.

She's the biggest carrier ever purpose sunk as a reef wreck, and the flight deck is just past the recreational dive limit, being 145' deep.

It's the fault of Star Trek initially. Basically people thought it would be funny to go as Federation crew and pretend like they beamed down to a medieval planet. It kinda snowballed into other shows with space, shows with time travel, and so on until now it's just kinda 'wear what you want' instead of period garb with occasional jokers.

Christ no kidding? I was just in Nassau last week. I can't even imagine it flooded.
