I grew up in Tasmania Australia, and this happened when I wasa kid in primary school. We ALL knew about it, and for years "Bosnian" meant "in need of aid". There were all kinds of drives, food, fundraising etc. I remember being confused, because normally these kinds of events were staged for places in Africa, and I was shocked to eventually learn Bosnians were white. The war/genocide and the death of Princess Diana were the two political events I was aware of as a child. I suspect that others my age would be as aware of it.

It says that squashing them or using chemical solutions are the two preferred options, and neither of those is practical I assume. Definitely not poisoning them.
