It's a valid strategy but has some limitations: like you have to be a US resident, good credit score, find a card or with large signup bonus and use card to meet minimum spending - usually few $K and wait few months and then find an award flight without fuel surcharges. Actually cash prices for international flights are record low. Where do you want to go and what is your max budget?
