They even specifically say there is no way they could do that to Adam, but then of course a minute later we're watching him get 100,000 volts through his body. And then right after Adam gets shocked and looks fucking pissed, Kari blurts out something like "Do you feel god now?". One of the most cringe-inducing moments ever. They basically tazed him and thought he was going to laugh about it. I've had a few pretty serious electric shocks and they feel pretty horrible even when you're expecting them. I don't know if I would have been able to keep my cool as well as Adam did.

Definitely a great example of how different people have different ideas of what constitutes a "prank" and why they often don't go as smoothly as you think.

It been almost exactly 50 years since humanity first stepped on the moon. 70 years before that there were still doctors that did not wash their hands or believed in the concept of "bad air" (miasma) causing all diseases. Today we are using multi-million dollar surgeon-controlled robots and endoscopic tools to do surgeries that would've never even been imagined possible a hundred years ago, and we have developed technology to literally photograph a molecule and 'feel' atoms.

Fifty years is a long time. We've managed to build the most expensive and complex object in Earth orbit, so we've learned most of what we need to do there, so the next step is this next generation of cheaper and re-usable rockets that will actually allow us to "industrialize" LEO. When there is a will to do something, and the money to do it, we've proven as a species there is very little that we can't do.

I don't know about Mars, but I would say that having a moon base and industrialized low orbit could certainly happen in quite a bit less than 50 years, but it's not like exploring space is the only thing humanity does. There is a high level of unpredictability in these sorts of things because so much can happen in the mean time.

I live next to Lancaster and spend a lot of time hiking around the Susquehanna, I have never seen a horse-drawn buggy without the orange triangle. As another person mentioned, there's a wide variety when it comes to adherence to more 'traditional' rules and not every Amish family is the same, so it's not quite accurate to make these types of blanket-statements.

I'm assuming you're drug tested as part of your application before they let you down there? I would imagine that would apply to even basic positions since it's contract work and they're paying to get you down there.

That's totally not the right thing to say to somebody who wants to kill themselves. You can have everything in the world but money is not a cure for depression and other mental disorders.
