This is such an intriguing position I see soldiers take. I served too, and I saw this sort of position all the time, and it genuinely confused me.
What your stance boils down to is; we've got freedoms and rights because we're the best country in the world, and that's the shit that makes us the best, and the rest of these bitches don't have them and that's why they suck and need democracy.
And I wouldn't disagree. I LOVE America, I'm proud to have served. It genuinely saddens me knowing there are people all over the world that don't have anywhere close to the freedoms I have as an American.
Yet, the stance of "Fuck these guys and the horses they road in on. They join ISIS they can SMD" is contingent on sacrificing those very freedoms and rights that we use to validate us as the best.
This is why the ACLU is so important. Did this douchebag probably join ISIS? Probably, and he can rot in hell for that. But precedence is massively important in law, and allowing the rights of evil men to be infringed on sets the stage for the rights of good men to be infringed on. We HAVE to protect the rights of people that don't deserve it, because they have the same rights as the people that do deserve them. The moment you sacrifice those rights for one person, you sacrifice them for everyone.

By the time they’re 72, nearly 80% of Americans will experience some form of trauma according to a study done (Kessler 2008 is the source I believe but I’m on mobile and can’t check rn) and the definition of that trauma is likely narrower than reality. However, lots of people have good healthy coping mechanism and handle trauma well and it doesn’t develop into deeper disorders.

Do you think Edgar Allan Poe would like that the best football team in America - The Baltimore Ravens - named their mascot after him?
