Did you have any prior experience being a deckhand?

This kind of thing sounds absolutely awesome, but I have never operated a boat.

How long did it take you to understand how everything worked?

Also, did it help change your outlook on your life? I found this AMA from the askreddit thread and you mentioned your gf cheating on you. I'm in a bit of a rough patch and want to do something crazy and life changing.
