His wife used to help him at that time, but she got stung with a bone and died of tetanus.

This is quite mind blowing, that death can happen on such a trivial accident, now we are all vaccinated against that.

Glad to hear that ! My grandma had a stomach disease in 1945 and was one of the first to get treated with penicillin in France. At first doctors were reluctant giving her that « new American treatment » but she finally got it. Was still a hard memory for her because she lost her hair with the disease, and in summer 1945, being a bald woman in Paris was quite a hard time.
