I was actually giddy with excitement that the actors all spoke English. It did stand out to me, too, but only because I'd personally never seen it done before. I think it should be looked at like any other historical fiction set in a non English speaking land- no one ever thought it was weird that they weren't speaking in "native tongue" in movies like Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst or The Man in the Iron Mask with Leonardo di Caprio, for instance.

Helen, I'm a big fan of your podcast! I just adore your sense of humor and way of speaking. Did you or Roman take voice lessons to achieve radio-tier voices, or is that a thing of the past? Do you ever hang out at /r/etymology?

I knew it! He should do an episode on how he was designed to take over the world with his voice. Thank you for answering!

I have a hard time understanding English that's spoken with non-American accents (although I am foreign myself), but for some reason I never have trouble understanding you or the people in Jane Austen movies. Must be the "posh" accent!
