This is a different world we live in today, you are much less likely now to be labelled and shipped off elsewhere for treatment. I suggest before you pan it universally as such that you just give it a try. So many people are so close to making it nowadays and just need a little push in the right direction. Don't put yourself at risk of becoming another statistic because of an outdated lack of belief in the system.

What does this mean for the theory that Mars once had a climate more like the Earth but due to some sort of change became as inhospitable as it is today?

I'm sorry but I doubt you used to be a crisis counselor based on how you're talking on the subject, or you need to get up to date on how to properly respond to crisises in others. It is not up to us to determine whether the threat is real, and crisis counselors are trained specifically not to make that judgement as it can negatively impact our ability to provide proper care in even subtle ways. Secondary forms of therapy are where such distinctions are made, if necessary. A crisis counselor's first and most important job is to get the client through the current crisis however possible, and it is certainly not to "scare the shit out of him so he doesn't seek attention that way again". Even if there are still long term causes of such crisises it is not your job to address them, after the current crisis it is then your job to find them long term care if necessary.

There may have been pressure at one point in time, but after decades of textile production without hemp involved, the economics just don’t make sense for using it in a large scale for clothes.

It’s just too hard and expensive to process hemp fibers for clothes compared to cotton and other textiles for it to be commercially viable as anything but a novelty product unfortunately.
