Well /u/taranasus has a degree in computer science and I have one in Systems engineering. Mine was perfectly useless when creating the game, but I had the advantage of working in a AAA games company before. As for my partner in crime, not once did I hear "Thank God for Google". I honestly don't think that university courses can prepare you for the reality of designing a game, coding it and marketing it.
