not to take over the OP's job- but the average is usually around 10 years.
My first transplanted heart lasted 9 years, so it is pretty accurate :)

This will sound so stupid, but I sort of sensed it, I told my mother that for some reason I felt like I didn't have much longer with the heart.
Go to the Doctor about a month later and learned I got something called cardio myopathy (something sounding like that, I apologize I was going through a moment when it all happened.)
Basically the heart could pump outwards fine, but had a really slowed contraction. it couldn't fully squeeze inwards because of the sac around it.
I waited in a hospital for 7 months and finally got the call.
I honestly wouldn't be alive if I didn't watch my intake/walking while I was in the hospital- gotta give the heart what it wants.

oh yeah, it feels way better than the last one, The first transplant I needed was such a time crunch kind of thing, I think the Docs were willing to take whatever they could get.
