What is fundamentally wrong about treating different types of traffic (e.g. a real-time video conference vs an overnight backup to the cloud) differently? Isn't the real issue the lack of competition and the perverse incentives of the cable operators to protect their legacy television and content businesses?

Can you give me a 2 sentence pitch I can use to convince my friends and family that they need to care about this issue? It seems easy if I know that someone is politically active and I can use "their issue" as an example, but what about those that keep their politics to themselves?

To piggyback here: does the role of money in politics (see Lawrence Lessig) have a large impact on this? Are campaign contributions and lobbying dollars some of the key roadblocks?

Other than signing a petition or sending an automated email, how can we build/show public support for reclassification?

Don't be obtuse. With history as an example, the kind of "thinking" that goes on in an FCC commissioner's head is not reasoning about what will have the best result for the American people, but rather calculating what will be most politically expedient for him/her. Yes this is worrying. Yes, Mr. Wheeler should do the right thing without regard for his future career. No, this is not likely to happen.
