When writing did you feel it hard to stay focused or keep it grounded in the theme of the series? (Not just your Indie books)

You worked a job I've dreamed of falling into and unfortunately it wasn't a happy ending. With that being said, I wish you the best mate.

What would you say was the biggest eye opener in regards to the difference of culture from the Western World?
