If this is Interstellar Matt Damon, hopefully not

When I was 17 years old my neighbor attempted to kill his wife and she fled into my house, this being the first and only time I have ever left the door unlocked, and I was woken up by the sound of her screaming for help whole being choked, and my dad getting the guy off of her. It has been a very traumatic experience, and I still get triggers occasionally. I've volunteered at several different places to help people overcome their problems with these kinds of things, what made it hardest for me to get over it is that there was no one who knew what I was going through, besides my parents. Having someone who has been through something similar helps a lot. Altogether now though I am in a much better place than I was before, and I'm glad to see that you seem to be doing relatively well. My question is if you've done any volunteering or anything of the sort to educate people on this. Also, what contributed the most to you overcoming this?

It's mostly just a matter of not being seen and not being heard. If you see a cop or anyone don't yell unless they ask you something. Avoid doors and windows, and the ground is your friend

That sounds like something situational, I think there were people who survived the Paris attack a few months ago but they were playing dead while surrounded by people who really are, and it worked before at Virginia Tech, but both of those situations were where people were actually shooting and coming back. I don't think any organization advises playing dead since there isn't a lot of material to study it's effectiveness, the normal plan is run hide fight, or I guess now some suggest run hide tell (as in the police), but you know silence your phone. I guess it mostly just relies on their intent, the reason they use short simple terms like "run hide fight" is that they can't account for every situation

I've done these on two separate occasions, the first was in a much larger location (I think it was an abandoned hotel) and we used airsoft, the second was in an rundown house in the middle of nowhere where we used simunition (paintballs that fire through modified real pistols and travel a lot faster), if I remember correctly the gun I used was a Glock G22.
