I JUST finished this book and can't look at meat without thinking about how it died and how it lived.

I've volunteered at a farmed animal rescue, so I'm not totally ignorant of the industry, but I'm sure there's a long way to go before I'm anywhere near knowledgeable. I liked Temple Grandin's book Animals in Translation as well. It talks about the cattle industry.
I just get really heartbroken about a lack of caring for a creature who has no control over its own existence. If you bring something into this world, you have an obligation to do the best by it. Otherwise, don't bring creatures into this world who will just suffer. There was a former veal calf (now steer) at the rescue who had a giant scar (10" or so fold of skin) from an injury his former owners decided to duct tape shut instead of suture.
