I've kept snakes for quite a while and no they are not like cats or dogs. While they may learn to tolerate handling as they get used to you, it's more or less any competent handler can handle them, not just their owner. They don't recognize you in any real sense of forming a bond, though they recognize that you're not there to eat them. Depending on the species, handling them can cause undue stress so it's better to handle only when necessary. Other species tolerate handling much better and can be handled more often, though one should always be mindful of the temperature when you have them out.

If possible, call a professional if the snake is venomous.

If non venomous, you can place a towel over the head of the snake and gently pin the snake by the head and then go about cutting the net off.

What OP is pointing out here is that permanent brain damage is a potential negative side effect of the treatment, but not one that the ECT industry and manufacturers have been presenting to doctors/patients as a possible side effect. Not only have they not presented this info to doctors/patients, they have actively denied that it even could be a side effect. If the industry/manufacturers are not admitting that brain damage is possible, then doctors aren't warning patients about it either. For a side effect this serious, patients absolutely need to be informed both in the written consent form and face to face by their doctor before they can consent to the treatment.

Yes but OP isn't talking about memory loss as the only negative potential side effect. OP mentioned permanent brain damage and talked about how the ECT industry and manufacturers not only fail to present this as a possible side effect but have actively denied that it even could be a side effect. If the industry/manufacturers are not admitting that brain damage is possible, then doctors aren't warning patients about it either. In this case, it's not necessarily the doctors fault for the patient not being adequately informed for consent. Instead blame lies on the manufacturers for not listing brain damage as a potential side effect.
