If you are dealing with depression, I would take a look at Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It's the program used by many psychologists all over the world, as it has such a high success rate with patients.
In the end, it might not matter what you choose to do, it's the perspective you take about it. Our beliefs about ourselves have a surprising effect on our emotions. If you reinforce your negative beliefs, then you will believe them to be true.

This is probably one of the most insightful AMA's I've ever read; and I've read a lot. Good self-awareness!
I kind of feel like this is the same thing with people: sometimes someone will keep talking about how they adamantly hate someone else, and you realize that it is because they share so many traits. That's partly the reason that sometimes teenagers hate their parents as well, they try to eke out their own ego to differentiate themselves.
