There are some very good sushi with cooked and smoked fish as well ! (Smoked salmon, grilled and smoked eel, imitation crab most seafood is always served cooked: shrimp, crab, lobster, etc)

That's just Quebec English though. Regardless of our first language we pick up on common "mistakes" and it becomes part of our vocabulary.
