That's a lot of what makes the job rough for me--they're in school so long all day that it's almost hard to feel like you're doing them a service by teaching them. Especially middle-high school kids are just dead, and I teach them until 10:30 at night.

Fellow ESL teacher chiming in here, curious about your job situation! Do you ever have several weeks of "intensive" classes that push you into mandatory overtime? My school does that and I'm wondering if it's common. Also, do you get red days off?

There may actually be something to this--English has more phonemes than Korean, and also a lot more diversity in its source languages.

Yeah, never understood why they don't use the 's' ㅅ sound rather than the 'ch' ㅈ sound when trying to say z's. Everytime they say "Picha" rather than "Pizza" or even "Pisa" it makes me grind my teeth :D

Don't know what's up with the downvotes here--I agree in a lot of ways! It's a nice place to live but the teaching isn't very rewarding. I personally love living here, but like you said, would probably enjoy studying here more than teaching.
