well now that i've googled it, i'm thoroughly confused. the first three links are contradictory to each other (one says it's fine, the next says it's illegal only in california, and another says california is one of a few states where it's legal -_-")

Im on mobile so i couldnt see if an answer was hidden but:

One example of a possibly problematic gmo product is the insertion of the gene for bt toxin into corn. Bt toxin is an insecticide made by the bt bacteria (used for at least 100 years as a spray on insecticide). Once the gene is inserted into corn, the corn can make its own toxin and whenever a bug bites it, they will die. Now that the corn makes it, you cant wash it off because the toxin is produced within the cell.

It is possible and very likely that <1% of the population will have a bad reaction to this toxin (and there have been a few studies that show detrimental effects on lab animals). But even a percentage that low is still something like 300,000 people. These people would need to stay away from this specific gmo product.
