Interesting.

Gypped is in our vernacular too, yet I don't think anyone I know ever associates that word with gypsies when using it.

On a related note, I once used the term Jap in an outburst during a college class. I was honestly surprised when our senior-aged professor was offended - I had no idea it had negative connotations (nor do I think I'd ever used it before that day). I was just making a brief point and abbreviated the wrong word.

edit: To clarify, I don't mean that the only people who say gypped don't know it comes from Gypsy; I'm saying that I don't think many people think "I want to denigrate some Gypsies" when they use it.

I'm American. Uppity has unusual connotations to some of us?

Windows RT sounds like the naming jury got hungry, threw up their hands, and said "fuck it, let's just use RT." Nobody knows that RT stands for runtime, and even if they did, that term is only meaningful to app developers.

Seems like a better strategy would have been to figure out what makes the Windows Runtime special and name it after that: "Windows Touch", "Windows Modern", "Windows Fullscreen", "Windows Everywhere", etc.

Then, you incorporate that brand into Windows 8. Windows 8 has the same Windows UI that you've become accustomed to over the last 18 years, with the added power of Windows Everywhere apps that also work on your phone/tablet/xBox. The entry-level Surface only has Windows Everywhere, but there are charms to launch Office. (Don't show Explorer in the UI. It reminds people who might otherwise be interested in Windows Everywhere what they hate about Windows Classic.) Surface Pro has Windows 8, which can run both Windows Classic and Windows Everywhere applications.

Have you looked at Hipmunk? I was under the impression that all the aggregators get the same data and just display it differently.

In the year 2020, your headphone jack is an accessory that connects to the phone. </conan-snark>

Is the magnetic attachment secure enough that I can put the phone in my pocket and the headphones won't cut out while I'm moving around?
