I know of one light near my house where the timing changes when there is a pedestrian. It's the light that only stays green for about three seconds after the last car crosses the sensor (it is annoying!). But if there is a pedestrian it stays green a lot longer. I assume it is normally triggered by traffic sensed but with a pedestrian it switches to a timed mode.
