As a founding sustainer, one of the things I miss the most about the original current programming is the deep and eclectic variety that was played. A new modern hiphop track would be followed by some 10 year old piece of R&B that the artist said influenced the new track, then a 30 year old piece of jazz that influenced that old piece of R&B. Or the DJ would play some old eclectic piece of rock and then follow it up with some modern local music that is just the same kind of vibe and feel and they flow together perfectly.

These days there seems to be a much smaller variety of music that is played much more often. It's not as bad as top 40 playing the same 40 tracks over and over... maybe more like top 100 it feels.

How many different songs do you play in a day/week?

Is there any chance of being able to go back to those old days, maybe even just as a single daily show?

Yes, this is what I was trying to get to with my question. That Minnepixels database puts numbers to what I was trying to say so very well. Just look at the number of times the top songs in 2006 were played: 65. (ignore the outlier that is "Rebroadcast".) Compare to the 2014 top songs, all over 200 plays in the year.

Specialty shows aside... the main current content has changed to more replays of less content since it launched... clearly many of us are noticing it.

Hey gang, I get the feeling you took that question a different way than it was intended... wasn't trying to poke anyone's eyes out there, Sorry if it came across that way.

I get that you have silo'd off a lot of the more eclectic content into their own shows... it's just that that is kinda like eating a salad by ingredient if you will. First we're going to eat all the tomatoes. Then all the croutons. Then the carrots. Then the dressing. Then the lettuce. The old current it felt like every bite had some of everything. I miss those days.

When you were self publishing, what did you do for editing? Are there independent editors you can just hire? Or do you rely on trading editing with other independent authors?
