Do you guys have civil service as an alternative to the military service, like we do in Switzerland? If so, could you be/are you required to do that instead?

Slight correction; most men receive the SIG 550 assault rifle (locally known as Stgw/F ass 90). Handguns, the SIG P220 handgun (locally known as Pist 75) are issued to Officers and Medics only. While getting them from the army implies (repeated) training in their use, they can also very easily (main conditions are being over 18 with no criminal record, not being under guardianship or mentally ill, not being a citizen of a small list of 10 countries including Albania, Kosovo, Turkey, etc.) be bought as a civilian with no training whatsoever.
