I get that shitty people permeate every business, but it's so fucked up that the amount of shitty psych workers I hear about. Voluntarily seeking treatment for things as stigmatized as mental health is a really hard thing to do. It just makes your pride crumble, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's not helpful when the people in charge of caring for you make it abundantly obvious that they couldn't give less of a fuck if they tried.

Same. I haven't seen her in a year but she is going to be spending a week on the island with me for Thanksgiving. We're so excited. All we have been talking about is what we're going to be cooking that week. Right now, we're thinking grilled crab and lobster for Thanksgiving, but green chili stew and beef stroganoff are 1000% locked in for that Monday and Tuesday, so we'll see! (btw...we're not huge gluttons or anything...we both really love to cook, but we both live alone and we don't have anyone to cook for, so we get very excited to cook for people)

I like to think it reminded them that at least someone cared.
That's exactly what you did and I thank you for doing that.

My mom is a nurse in a psych hospital and her entire job is preventing things from getting worse.
She'd been a nurse for years, but only started working in psych because of how I was treated and neglected by staff when I was seeking treatment for depression and an eating disorder. When she found out I wasn't being given the diet that had been prescribed to me, she went behind the counter, grabbed my chart, and marched right up to unit director. My diet wasn't ever fucked with after that.
Don't get me started on the new asshole she ripped two doctors and four nurses after they didn't call her when I was getting extubated. It's been 11 years and I still don't think any of them can shit right.
She is that bitch.
So are you.
We need more of you.
