Why tie her down instead of slipping her feet through a ring that is then tied down? My understanding is that the latter is standard for breath-holding competitions and similar and would be safer. Did she have a knife?

The legal definition of blind differs significantly from what most people think of as "blind" (i.e. totally without vision). Do you think that this classification is helpful to you? To people with total blindness?

To explain what I mean: on one hand, I would think that someone without any ability to see at all could be annoyed at having their condition lumped in with people who have some (albeit limited) vision. On the other hand, I could see that classifying everyone with significant vision difficulties as "legally blind" could make society more accepting or more willing to help out. It might be easier for someone to describe themselves as legally blind than to specify their exact medical condition. It might be easier to get regulations passed about accessibility by using one broad category than many.
