Remember that Romania was an ally of Germany, and an enemy of the USSR. The Russians had more reason to be hostile to them. There were actual Romanian troops at Stalingrad.
The "liberator" stuff was generic Communist propaganda - we liberate you from capitalism. Doesn't mean the Russians viewed Romania as a friend.
