I work for a carrier. If you go anywhere, buy a phone there. Don't even turn your phone on. I work in tech support but regularly get customers with $1600 of roaming charges!!! A lot of it is because of data which customers don't even know they're charged roaming!

I work for a Canadian carrier n they chard like 3$ / mb of data or something to roam in the US n customers b emailing videos n pictures to friends! Use a wifi connection.
