Would it be better if manufacturers just replace palm oil with something else? Is this possible without drastically changing the product?

I guess I’m just wondering what makes it so necessary. Like when my wife wanted to go gluten free, I researched and found that gluten is the essential thing that helps the yeast for bubble in fluffy bread. And it’s almost impossible to replicate with something else. Which is why gluten free bread tasted like junk. What’s different about palm tree oil from other cooking oils?

This makes me feel that any “anti deforestation” initiatives by these companies are pure white washing. They know it’s a commodity and if they really cared, they’d just stop using it and switch to the slightly more expensive alternative oil.

So it’s just cost, seriously? That is messed up. We are cutting down rainforests because that’s where the cheap oil is when there are other oils we could use? Maybe the government should ban its use or tax it until it’s not viable any more.
