My brother is in treatment for fentanyl addiction and is on suboxone. His treatment plan is to keep him on suboxone forever. The idea is that detox, rehab, and other treatment have dismal track records and are are costly to hospitals, shelters, cities/towns - basically society.

What do you think of this approach?

Butting in: I am in recovery from binge eating disorder and there is a difference between overeating and an eating disorder. People frequently use the word binge when they mean overeat. A true binge feels like an alcoholic trying to put the bottle down after a couple of shots.

People overeat for a variety of reasons, only some of which are emotional or psychological.

If your friend wants to seek help, she can try to start with her doctor who will most likely brush her off and tell her she needs to diet. She can look for therapists who work with EDs, contact the National Eating Disorder Association or start with a local recovery group such as a 12-step program or Refuge Recovery.

When you took your coach training, did they teach you in lesson one that it is an ethical violation to treat mental illness instead of referring them to mental health professionals? Because that’s what’s in lesson one in every coach training certification.

I repeat again, you are a walking ethical violation in the field of life coaching.

Also, why don’t you have a picture on your LinkedIn profile? I write LinkedIn profiles for a living as a career coach and that’s one of the first things we do. You’re willing to share your name and your location and your company but not your picture which is not very professional.

I am happy to chat more in private about this if you want.

I was diagnosed with BED when I went for a consultation for gastric bypass. I had to meet with a psychologist as part of the screening process and she rejected me from the program and referred me to a local recovery center.

It's highly likely that gastric bypass won't work long term for your friend if she doesn't change her relationship with food. Not everyone loses weight like magic from the surgery and a significant number of patients gain the weight back within five years.

Hey, I’ve to go make my weekly trip to the supermarket but best of luck and I will vote for you.

You might not have fully formed ideas but we need young people in government and it takes a lot of balls to come here and answer questions from a Masshole like me. Kudos. Good luck and I’m going to tell all my friends about you.
