I teach postgraduate courses at Oxford and it's an interesting mix. Biology - Heavily in favour of women, industrial doctoral courses 60:40 f:m, synthetic chemists: 50:50, biomedical imaging 40:60 f:m. However, bizarrely, we end up with a truly disproportionate number of left-handers and very tall people. Like, ridiculously tall.

Other than "don't be in the water in the first place", "hold onto the neck of your life vest if you have to jump in" and "don't swim, only float".. what other advice do you have for surviving cold water immersion?
