Hi Matteo, I'm a bartender in NYC, a Last Word is my total favorite cocktail. Equal parts say whaaat!! I'm trying to get a job as a sales rep cause I'm tired of working bar hours. What sort of traits or experience do you look for when hiring sales reps out of the bar world? I know that's a pretty common pathway but it hasn't happened for me yet. Thanks a bunch!

Just about every person over 30 had a 1/1 birthdate, most of the younger people had "actual" birthdays. We were briefed on Somali cultural etiquette and that was one of the things that had been covered (in addition to other things such as men not wanting to shake women's hands, that one was really hard for me because I am a lady raised to shake hands with people, and to take our shoes off and stuff like that) . As a white girl from Burnsville/Minneapolis it was very eye opening, and I got to see the inside of a lot of people's houses around uptown/seward, so I didn't feel SO bad about my slightly ghetto ass apartment. ;)

A lot of the race related shit is due to a lot of true "African-Americans" (ie first or second gen) looking down on the typical "black Americans" because they perceive the culture as lazy and entitled. My best friend's dad is from Liberia and he would always talk shit about lazy kids, but my friend is friends with all kinds of people, he didn't really take it much to heart. :)

It is. I'm from Minneapolis (now in NYC, woot) and there are tons of Somalis, Mexicans, Ecuadorians, Hmong, etc etc. Actually most of the Hmong live in St Paul but, ya know, same diff. I don't know why people would come to Minnesota. We're nice people but it's cold as SHIT. Somewhat related, I also read about some research at the University of Minnesota investigating links between autism (for which there is no word in Somali) and lack of vitamin D in mothers (which would make sense because hello, latitude change). I'm not sure how it ended up though, if someone randomly knows about this I'd love to hear about it. I think it was in Doris Taylor's lab, iirc, but she's kind of a rock star so I could be mistaken.
