Sounds like the story of Pachinko in reverse minus the flippers. IIRC Pachinko was initially an amusement toy that eventually spawned the whole "trade the balls you win for vaguely relevant prizes that you can totally not-illegally sell back to the shop right next door that we totally don't operate".

Well that explains it. Maybe it was a Kia Ri"oh no a hill" in puke orange. That or maybe a Geo Metro are the only cars from the early 2000s I can think of that might have less balls than a comparable Hyundai of the era.

Honestly, all of the manufacturers have kicked it up a notch these days. There doesn't seem to be a truly bad car right now, even in the econobox-on-wheels market.

The newer model Fiestas are actually all right... You probably were dropped into some crappy Sonic Aveo or something knowing Enterprise.
